## Prestigious Scientific Awards in India

## 1. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (SSB)

- Overview: The most coveted multidisciplinary science prize in India. Awarded annually by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
- Focus: Notable and outstanding research (fundamental or applied) in seven fields: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine, and Physics.
- Eligibility: Indian citizens, overseas citizens, and PIOs working in India up to 45 years of age.
- Inception: Established in 1958 in honor of the founder-director of CSIR, Sir Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar.
- First Recipient: Sir K.S. Krishnan (Physics, 1958).

## 2. India Science Award

- Inception: Instituted in 2003 by the Government of India.
- Overview: A premier national recognition for exceptional contributions to key areas of scientific research.
- First Recipient: Chemist Prof. C.N.R. Rao (2004, presented in 2006) for solid-state and materials chemistry.

## 3. Infosys Prize

- Inception: First awarded in 2008 by the Infosys Science Foundation.
- Overview: One of India's highest monetary prizes recognizing scientific research across six categories: Engineering & Computer Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

## 4. G.D. Birla Award for Scientific Research
