# Complete List of Indian States and Official Languages 2025 | 28 States & 8 UTs

## States and Official Languages

Part XVII of the Constitution of India deals with official languages under Article 343. The Eighth Schedule originally specified 14 languages, which has expanded to 22: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

## Amendments:

- 21st Amendment Act, 1967: Added Sindhi.
- 71st Amendment Act, 1992: Added Konkani, Manipuri, and Nepali.
- 92nd Amendment Act, 2003: Added Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali.
