# List of High Courts in India: States & Their Locations Explained

## State and Location of High Courts

Articles 214 to 231 in Part VI of the Constitution govern the organization, independence, jurisdiction, powers, and procedures of High Courts in India.

- At present, there are 25 High Courts in India.
- Delhi is the only Union Territory with its own High Court (established in 1966).
- The High Court system originated in India in 1862 with the establishment of High Courts in Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras.
